Day 1 :
Depart gateway city

AHI FlexAir passengers depart for Genoa, Italy.

Meals - Appropriate in-flight meal service


Day 2 :
Genoa, Italy/Sestri Levante

Arrive at Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport. Proceed through immigration to the baggage claim area and retrieve your luggage. After completing customs, AHI FlexAir passengers traveling on flights that qualify for the group arrival transfer and Land Program passengers who have purchased seats on the group transfer should exit the baggage claim area and proceed to the designated meeting spot, where an AHI Travel representative will meet them.

Transfer to Sestri Levante and the Hotel Vis à Vis.

Gather with your fellow travelers for a Welcome Reception and Dinner.

Day 3 :
Portofino/Camogli

Educational Focus: The Italian Riviera, a Painter’s Palette
The beautiful coastline and light have inspired artists and writers to re-create the scenery on canvas and in words. Learn about the Italian Riviera’s artistic history.

Excursion: The Riviera
Travel to the coastal town of Rapallo, a charming town on the Ligurian coast. From there, cruise to Portofino, the iconic Riviera resort town, and stroll along the harbor. Admire the sparkling bay from the Church of San Giorgio, and see the medieval Castello di San Giorgio and the Punta del Capo lighthouse. Continue on your Riviera cruise to pretty Santa Margherita, another of the exclusive coastal resorts. From here, enjoy a short scenic drive to Camogli for a guided walk.

Independent Exploration
Enjoy some time at leisure in Camogli for lunch and exploring on your own before returning to Sestri Levante.

Educational Focus: Flavors of the Cinque Terre
Learn about the Cinque Terre through a lesson in its unusual geography, economy and society, then enjoy a tasting of local wine and food products.

Day 4 :
Cinque Terre

Excursion: The Cinque Terre
Rugged mountains separate the five villages of the Cinque Terre from the rest of Italy, and for many years, the only way to reach these villages was by boat. The area has maintained its remote charm, and the stretch of coast from Porto Venere to the Cinque Terre has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site because of its value as a cultural landscape. Approximately 1,000 years ago, the people who made their homes here developed the terraced landscape that now is associated with the Cinque Terre villages. It seems nearly impossible, but they managed to develop a successful agricultural system that allows today’s residents to continue growing grapes and olive trees. Today, journey to Porto Venere, a picturesque town that atop the ruins of an ancient Roman town. Take a walk through the town before continuing through the scenic Cinque Terre National Park en route to Manarola, where pastel-colored houses hug the edge of a rocky cliff. Enjoy a guided walk that ends at the pier. Board a boat and see the Cinque Terre from the sea as you cruise to Vernazza. After exploring Vernazza, return to Sestri Levante by train.

Sestri Levante

The morning and afternoon are at leisure to explore on your own.

Learn about life in Italy during a discussion with local residents.

Day 6 :
Carrara/Radda in Chianti

Today, travel to Radda in Chianti.

Excursion: Carrara Marble
Journey to Carrara for a look at Italy’s famous marble industry. For 2,000 years, artists and builders have looked to the quarries at Carrara to supply high-quality white marble. Visit the Fantiscritti quarry to learn about this precious commodity and the marble industry.

Local Flavor
Enjoy lunch in Carrara.

Continue to Radda in Chianti. Upon arrival, check in to the Palazzo Leopoldo.

Excursion: Radda in Chianti
Get to know Radda, the medieval town that once was the seat of the League of Chianti. See the highlights while strolling through Radda’s cobblestone streets.

Enjoy dinner of Tuscan cuisine tonight in Radda.

Day 7 :
Radda in Chianti/Siena/Castellina

Educational Focus: The History of Chianti
Discover Chianti’s long history. Though it is a part of Tuscany, Chianti has its own rich past.

Excursion: Siena
Explore Siena, center of the powerful Republic of Siena during the Middle Ages. See its artistic and architectural heritage, including Mangia Tower in Piazza Campo.

Independent Exploration
Enjoy free time for lunch on your own and exploring in Siena.

Excursion: Castellina
Visit Castellina, a historic Tuscan hill town surrounded by Chianti vineyards. Enjoy a stroll through town, which once was a part of the powerful League of Chianti triad along with Radda in Chianti and Gaiole. It became a Florentine garrison during the power struggle between Florence and Siena.

Local Flavor
Head to the countryside for a barbecue at a restaurant in a restored 15th-century watermill.

Day 8 :
Florence

After breakfast, drive to Florence.

Educational Focus: Renaissance Art
Learn about the era that produced artists such as Michelangelo, Leonardo and Botticelli. Discover how the increased awareness of nature, the revival of classical learning and the more individualistic view of humanity shaped the art of the Renaissance.

Excursion: Cradle of the Renaissance
Enjoy a walking tour of Florence, capital of Tuscany, and discover the city center’s fine art and architecture. Florence is a veritable open-air museum, an urban masterpiece spread over the banks of the River Arno. Discover how the city’s wealth of creative genius left it filled with fine art and stunning architecture around every turn. See the Palazzo Vecchio, the Ponte Vecchio, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Piazza della Signoria and other highlights.

Independent Exploration
Enjoy lunch and sightseeing on your own with possible stops at the Uffizi Gallery or the Galleria dell’Accademia, home to Michelangelo’s David.

Return to Radda late this afternoon.

Day 9 :
San Gimignano/Colle di Val d’Elsa/Radda

Excursion: Life in Chianti
Visit San Gimignano, the hill town known for its collection of medieval tower houses, and Colle di Val d’Elsa.
Located above the valley of the Elsa River, Colle di Val d’Elsa is on the ancient Via Francigena, a medieval highway frequented by pilgrims and merchants traveling from Rome to northern Europe. Wander the narrow lanes of this historic town and delight in its 15th- and 16th-century noble houses and medieval tower houses.

Local Flavor
Enjoy lunch in Colle di Val d’Elsa, and visit a Chianti winery to try some of the local wines.

Return to Radda.

Tonight, gather for a Farewell Reception, followed by a Graduation Ceremony and a Farewell Dinner.

Day 10 :
Depart for gateway city

After breakfast, AHI FlexAir passengers traveling on flights that qualify for a group transfer and Land Program passengers who have purchased seats on the group transfer depart for Florence Airport for your return flights home.
